because Andrea Bargnani and DeMar DeRozan have figured out how to co-exist on a basketball court.

It is no sure thing that they will do it consistently but for one afternoon it was if they'd done it a million times before as they led the Raptors to a 118-112 win over the Sacramento Kings on Sunday at the Air Canada Centre.

The numbers were shockingly even:

 • Bargnani was 12-for-19 from the floor in 39 minutes and made a couple of three-pointers in a 30-point afternoon.

 • DeRozan was 13-for-20 from the floor in 39 minutes and made two of three free throws he took while pouring in 28 points.

If there questions whether the two could co-exist, they're on the backburner today.

"I think (DeRozan) has got the ability to be aggressive, even when Andrea's on the floor," said coach Jay Triano. "I think they can learn to play off each other well and they had some plays (Sunday) where they did that."

The inside-outside attack is something new to this version of the Raptors.

DeRozan really came into his own when Bargnani missed four games with a calf injury and hasn't missed a beat since the big man has returned.

"I'm not surprised because I know what he can do," Bargnani said of DeRozan. "I see him in practice every day and I'm happy he's finally showing in the games what he's capable to do. We need that and he has to keep doing that."

Bargnani, meanwhile, has scored more than 20 points in three of his four games since getting back and it's the same old, same old from the team's top offensive weapon.

And when the game was on the line, it was the tried and true high screen-and-roll with Bargnani and Jose Calderon that provided the biggest basket. With the Raptors clinging to a one-point lead with 66 seconds left, Triano called a timeout and went with the play that's worked so well so many times. Calderon used a screen from Bargnani, went right and kicked the ball to the big man, who calmly drilled a 25-footer that was the game's dagger.

Now, it's not a huge feat to beat a Sacramento team that has the league's second-worst record at 8-26 and was missing its best player in Tyreke Evans, who sat out with a sprained ankle.

That's why there was a feeling of relief, more than euphoria, when the Raptors won.

"Offence was good, we didn't play good defence the whole game long," said Bargnani. "We got better the last five minutes and that's what got us the win.

"Like the coach always says, we're not going to have a problem scoring the ball, our biggest issue right now is the defence. We have to get better. We cannot afford to play four quarters like this, especially at home in front of our crowds. We have to keep working on that."

The Raptors had, for them, as healthy a lineup as they've had in weeks. Jerryd Bayless came back after missing two games with a sore ankle to play 15 minutes backing up Calderon, who got through another 33 minutes on a sore foot that had him limping after the game. And Leandro Barbosa, who made two huge three-pointers as part of an 11-point fourth quarter, looks recovered from a variety of ills.

And that's why Triano was more than happy to see DeRozan remain as aggressive as he was when the injuries were mounting.

"With more guys out and when Jose's out and when Andrea was out for a bit, he had to step up a little bit and I think it's helped his overall game," said the coach. "He's starting to really come into his own as an offensive player."
