She kept her pregnancy secret for six months, but yesterday Amanda Holden finally showed off her baby bump – and she did it in style.

The Britain's Got Talent star cradled her stomach in a dazzling one-shouldered electric blue dress as she made an appearance in Cardiff ahead of the show's latest auditions.

Braving the 44f (7c) temperatures, she said: 'This is the first time I've properly shown my bump in public. I'm feeling fantastic.'

She insists being a new mother won't affect her work as a judge on the ITV talent contest, the live shows of which begin in May.

And her hectic work schedule also includes a starring role as Princess Fiona in the West End production of Shrek: The Musical, which also begins in May.

She is joined on the BGT judging panel this year by comedian Michael McIntyre and American actor David Hasselhoff. Yesterday, as Hasselhoff emerged from the same hotel, she joked: 'Here comes the father now.'

Miss Holden already has a daughter Lexi, five, with her husband Chris Hughes. The couple know they are expecting a boy.

Despite expecting to give birth to her second child in March, Holden insisted it would not affect her work commitments for Britain's Got Talent and starring in the new West End production of Shrek: The Musical.

Holden will play Princess Fiona at Drury Lane when the show opens in May.

The former Cutting It star will film the Britain's Got Talent Series 5 auditions over the next weeks, before returning to the judging panel in late May in time for the live shows.

The blonde TV star announced on January 2 that she and husband Chris Hughes, 37, were expecting their second child together.

She explained she waited so long to announce her pregnancy after she tragically suffered a miscarriage last year.

The couple, who married in December 2008, are already parents to daughter Alexa, aka Lexi, who turns five later this month.

In a statement on her official website, Holden revealed her secret heartbreak last year after losing her unborn child.

It read: 'Amanda Holden and her husband Chris Hughes are delighted to announce that Amanda is 6 months pregnant with their second child.

'Their delight is increased by the fact that last year she tragically lost a baby.

'As they are sure everyone will understand they needed to get the all clear from the doctor before they shared their very happy news.'

In an interview last year, Holden admitted she had started getting broody.

She said: 'I'd love to have more children. I'm 39 so I'd be very lucky, I've got lots of friends who have waited too long. If it happens it happens. But I'm blessed with one.'

The former Cutting It actress married music executive Hughes at Babington House in Somerset in December 2008 after a five year courtship.

The couple announced their engagement in December 2004, but delayed their wedding after Holden fell pregnant with Alexa, who was born in January 2006
