The South Ft. Myers, Fla., star football player said he has decommitted from Michigan because coach Rich Rodriguez was fired.

"To be honest, I'm not real happy about it," said Crawford, who verbally committed to the Wolverines on Nov. 12, his 18th birthday. "I don't feel like (Rodriguez) got a fair shot. If he was still there, I'd definitely be going."

Crawford said he plans to visit Miami (Fla.) on Jan. 14. He spoke with new Hurricanes coach Al Golden on Tuesday afternoon.

"I was always big on Miami," he said. "Now with the coaching change, I'm going to go down there and try to build a relationship with those guys and see what happens."

The 5-foot-11, 189-pound Crawford, who played quarterback and defensive back at South Fort Myers, obliterated nearly every Lee County career passing record during his high school career. However, he is being recruited exclusively as a defender.

In 2010, he led all area defenders with nine interceptions, returning one for a touchdown. He also had 76 tackles (53 solo) and three forced fumbles.

In addition to Miami, Crawford said he might also take visits to West Virginia, Tennessee and Purdue. He said he definitely plans to commit by Feb. 2, National Signing Day.

"It kind of challenging," Crawford said of the recruiting process. "I have less than a month to figure out what I'm going to do."
