The Friendliest Movie Monsters
by: Sarah BestonTypically when one hears "monster" they think of a creepy, bone-chilling colossal being who has an overarching goal of invoking fear in humans. They imagine blood, guts, and all things yuck. Most monsters like Freddy and Jason succeed, but what about when the scare just isn't there? No matter how monstrous and frightening these five movie monsters may claim to be, they are just big lovable softies at heart and we love them for it.
NAME: Harry
MOVIE: Harry and the Hendersons
After Mr. Henderson's car accidentally hits Harry, his life is turned upside down as he and his family takes in and cares for the real-life Sasquatch (a.k.a. Bigfoot). Far from being the fierce monster they fear him to be, Harry turns out to be a genuine gentle giant and quickly becomes a loving member of the Henderson family.-
NAME: James P. "Sulley" Sullivan
MOVIE: Monsters, Inc.
Monsters, Inc.'s top kid scarer, James "Sully" Sullivan, is supposed to be a hugely intimidating monster with blue fur, large purple spots, and horns that scare human children. He was initially afraid of humans due to their rumored "toxic touch," until a little girl named Boo enters his life and changes him forever. Sully takes Boo under his wing and becomes her caretaker and protector, showing that he really is a kind-hearted monster.NAME: Carol
MOVIE: Where the Wild Things Are
As tumultuous as the wild Carol may be with his monster-like tantrums and unpredictable ways, this mysterious creature ultimately embraces and befriends Max, a lonely eight-year-old boy who sails away to an island inhabited by creatures known as the "Wild Things." Instead of eating him like Carol and friends would normally do, he shows Max they way of the Wild Things.NAME: Gizmo
MOVIE: Gremlins
When Billy is given a small furry mogwai (a.k.a. gremlin) named Gizmo for a pet they become fast friends, but not without challenges from the other unruly gremlins he accidentally unleashes. These small, destructive creatures wreck havoc over the small town of Kingston Falls, and it is up to Billy and the soft and lovable Gizmo to work together to stop them.-

MOVIE: Monsters vs. Aliens
B.O.B., a gelatinous, indestructible, and brainless blob, goes to great measures to rescue California girl Susan Murphy when she is unwittingly clobbered by a meteor full of outer space gunk on her wedding day. After Susan grows to 49- feet, 11 inches tall, her fiancé breaks up with her, claiming that he can't be married to a freak. B.O.B., with his ability to digest absolutely anything, proves his devotion to Susan when he swallows her ex-fiancé. What B.O.B. lacks in brain and intellect, he makes up for with heart.
