The main suspect in the shooting of Paraguayan soccer star Salvador Cabanas in a Mexican bar one year ago was detained Tuesday in the Mexican capital, media reports said.
Jose Jorge Balderas Garza, nicknamed "JJ," was caught in the exclusive Mexico City neighborhood of Bosques de Las Lomas, the Milenio daily reported on its website.
Several other news websites also reported Balderas Garza's capture.
Federal police called a news conference on the case but declined to give further details beforehand.
The 29-year-old Paraguayan striker was shot in the head in the public toilets of a Mexico City bar on January 25, 2010. He had been playing for Mexico's America club.
Hospitalized for two months, Cabanas missed the World Cup in South Africa where Paraguay reached the quarter-finals.
