Matt Hardy Bothered by State of Tag-Team Wrestling

it doesn't seem that long ago when tag-team wrestling was a huge part of the wrestling business. Who can forget great teams like The Road Warriors, The Rock 'N' Roll Express, The Midnight Express and The Fabulous Freebirds?

The Rockers included a young Shawn Michaels while The Hart Foundation had a breakout star in Bret Hart. Over the past decade, there has been The Dudley Boys (now known as Team 3-D in TNA Wrestling), Edge and Christian and The Hardy Boyz.

But these days, there is little tag-team wrestling and good teams are few and far between. In fact, tag-team wrestling is almost nonexistent in the WWE. And Matt Hardy is not thrilled.

"It saddens me and it bothers me," Hardy told The Poughkeepsie Journal. "Looking at WWE, their main goal right now is to search for the next big thing that can draw. John Cena is the guy that is the centerpiece. Randy Orton is probably my favorite performer right now. But they still can't find that one person like a Stone Cold Steve Austin or The Rock that can spark the business to burn through the economy. That's what they're looking for and Vince, or WWE, isn't going to focus on tag team wrestling or a cruiserweight division."

He did say that one place that is trying to do something with tag-teams is TNA Wrestling with the likes of Beer Money and the Motor City Machine Guns.

"They've concentrated on the tag-team titles. I think they have so much potential. They have some creative issues, but there's a few changes within TNA that can make them skip to the next level."

It is truly sad what has happened to the lack of teams in wrestling, especially with the potential of what could be done. Tag-team wrestling flourished in the '80s and also at the turn of the century when the Dudleys, the Hardys and Edge and Christian had incredible matches in the WWE against one another for over a year.

There are some good teams, especially when it comes to Beer Money, which many, including myself, consider the best in the world. TNA could really capitalize on tag-team wrestling if it signs Matt Hardy and pairs him with his brother Jeff (even though the two seem focused on being singles wrestlers now) and bringing in Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin. Those three teams along with the Machine Guns could have great feuds and incredible matches together and could really help TNA stand out as a place for great tag-teams.
