Real Madrid closed again to within two points of leaders Barcelona with a hard-fought 3-2 win at local rivals Getafe on Monday night with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring twice.

Real ended the match with 10 men after Alvaro Arbeloa was shown red with eight minutes remaining, Getafe getting their second soon afterwards through Juan Albin to set up a nervy finish for Jose Mourinho's men.

But they held on to keep pace with reigning champions Barcelona, who beat Levante 2-1 on Sunday for thier 11th straight league win.

Ronaldo put Real on their way with an 11th minute penalty, after Angel Di Maria was pulled down.

German star Mesut Ozil made it 2-0 shortly afterwards following a fine pass from Di Maria.

But Daniel Parejo pulled one back on 29 minutes to keep alive home hopes until Ronaldo struck again just before the hour mark, fed by Karim Benzema for his 19th league goal of the season.

Real fans were cheered by the late substitute appearance of Brazil ace Kaka following a lengthy injury layoff before Arbeloa went for a second yellow card.

Albin then capitalized on a mistake by Marcelo, but Real held on for a deserved win.

In other La Liga action, Villarreal made it eight league wins from nine at home as they beat lowly Almeria 2-0 at El Madrigal to cement third place ahead of Valencia.

Defender Jose Catala scored the opener from a Borja Valero set-piece on 22 minutes and Valero added the second after the break from a free-kick as Villarreal pulled four points clear of Valencia and eight adrift of Real.
